Privacy Policy

Last updated: March 2026

AFLOAT Wellness Ltd. ("AFLOAT", "we", "us", or "our") is committed to protecting the privacy and confidentiality of every seafarer who uses our platform. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the rights you have over your data. By using the AFLOAT app or website, you agree to the practices described in this policy.

1. Who We Are

AFLOAT is a mental wellness platform built specifically for maritime professionals. We understand the unique psychological demands of life at sea, and our entire approach to data — including how we collect, store, and protect it — reflects the sensitivity of the work we do.

Data controller: AFLOAT Wellness Ltd.
Contact: privacy@afloatwellness.com

2. Information We Collect

We collect only the information necessary to provide and improve our service:

  • Account information — name, email address, and password when you register.
  • Profile information — vessel type, rank, and watch schedule (optional), used to personalise your experience.
  • Wellness data — mood check-ins, journal entries, stress assessments, and sleep logs that you voluntarily submit within the app.
  • Usage data — anonymised information about how you interact with features, used to improve the app.
  • Device information — device type and operating system, collected for technical support and offline functionality.

We do not collect location data, contact lists, or any information beyond what is listed above.

3. Mental Health and Wellness Data

We treat all mental health and wellness data with the highest level of care and confidentiality. This includes mood logs, journal entries, stress scores, and any other personal reflections you record in the app.

  • Your wellness data is never shared with your employer, shipping company, flag state, or any third party without your explicit written consent.
  • Wellness data is encrypted at rest and in transit using AES-256 and TLS 1.3 respectively.
  • Aggregated, fully anonymised wellness trends may be used for research to improve seafarer wellbeing — individual data is never identifiable in this context.
  • You may delete all wellness data at any time from within the app settings.

4. How We Use Your Information

We use your information solely to:

  • Provide, personalise, and improve the AFLOAT app and its features.
  • Adapt content and recommendations to your watch schedule and maritime role.
  • Send important service notifications (e.g. account security, policy updates).
  • Conduct anonymised research to advance understanding of seafarer mental health.
  • Comply with applicable legal obligations.

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal data to any third party for commercial purposes.

5. User Accounts

When you create an AFLOAT account, you are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your login credentials. You may update or delete your account at any time through the app settings or by contacting us directly.

Upon account deletion, all personal data and wellness records are permanently removed from our systems within 30 days, except where retention is required by law.

6. Data Storage and Security

Your data is stored on secure, encrypted servers located within the European Economic Area (EEA). We implement industry-standard technical and organisational measures to protect your data against unauthorised access, loss, or disclosure, including:

  • End-to-end encryption for all wellness data.
  • Regular independent security audits.
  • Strict access controls — only authorised personnel can access personal data, and only when necessary.
  • Offline-first architecture meaning sensitive data can be stored locally on your device without being transmitted when connectivity is unavailable.

In the event of a data breach that affects your rights and freedoms, we will notify you and the relevant supervisory authority within 72 hours of becoming aware of it.

7. Third-Party Services

AFLOAT uses a limited number of trusted third-party services to operate the platform. These providers are contractually bound to process your data only on our instructions and in accordance with this policy:

  • Cloud infrastructure — for secure data hosting and storage.
  • Analytics — anonymised, aggregated usage analytics only. No personal data is shared.
  • Email delivery — for transactional emails such as account verification and password resets.

We do not integrate with social media platforms, advertising networks, or any service that would expose your wellness data to third parties.

8. Cookies and Tracking

The AFLOAT website uses essential cookies only — those strictly necessary for the site to function (e.g. session management). We do not use advertising cookies or cross-site tracking technologies.

You can control cookie preferences through your browser settings. Disabling essential cookies may affect site functionality.

9. Your Rights

Under applicable data protection law (including GDPR), you have the right to:

  • Access — request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
  • Rectification — ask us to correct inaccurate or incomplete data.
  • Erasure — request deletion of your personal data ("right to be forgotten").
  • Portability — receive your data in a structured, machine-readable format.
  • Restriction — ask us to limit how we process your data in certain circumstances.
  • Objection — object to processing based on legitimate interests.
  • Withdraw consent — where processing is based on consent, withdraw it at any time without affecting prior processing.

To exercise any of these rights, contact us at privacy@afloatwellness.com. We will respond within 30 days.

10. Children's Privacy

AFLOAT is intended for adults aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 18. If you believe a minor has provided us with personal data, please contact us immediately and we will delete it promptly.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or applicable law. When we make material changes, we will notify you via the app or by email at least 14 days before the changes take effect. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page will always reflect the most recent revision.
